Visiting Slovenia · Local guidance · Multilingual photographer

You can arrive in a new country
and still feel understood.

Booking a photographer abroad can feel like one more unfamiliar thing to organise. You may not know the area, the best time for photographs or how you will explain what you want. You might also be wondering whether you will feel awkward in front of the camera.

I’m Sanja, the photographer behind Sanja’s Visuals, based in Radovljica near Lake Bled. I photograph couples from around the world in Slovenia, including holiday sessions, honeymoons, anniversaries, engagements and surprise proposals. I also have experience photographing families.

My role starts before we meet. I help you turn an idea into a practical plan, then guide you through the session so you can enjoy being there together.

Send me your travel dates and I will help you choose where to begin.

A photographer you can communicate with

You do not have to find the perfect photography vocabulary to tell me what matters to you. I speak and understand English very well, speak and understand German, and speak Slovenian and Serbian/Croatian. I also understand some Spanish, although I do not offer the same level of conversation in Spanish as in the languages I speak.

Languages at a glance
  • Slovenian: spoken.
  • English: very good speaking and understanding.
  • German: spoken and understood.
  • Serbian/Croatian: spoken.
  • Spanish: some understanding.

If your preferred language is different, tell me when you enquire. I do not speak every language, but simple explanations, demonstration and a little patience can help us understand each other. We agree on a clear way to communicate before you book.

For me, communication also means listening. Tell me if you prefer quiet moments to big gestures, if one of you is camera shy, or if you would rather keep walking than stay in one place. Those details help me guide you in a way that feels comfortable.

What I help you plan before you arrive

A location that fits your trip

We begin with where you are staying, how much time you have and the kind of scenery you love. A lake, a wooden boat and a mountain backdrop create different experiences. I help you choose rather than give you a long list of places to research alone.

A time chosen for your photographs

I consider the season, the position of the sun and the setting we choose. The best starting time is not always the sunset time shown on a weather app. We also take your travel schedule into account, then review the forecast closer to the session.

Practical details you can follow

Before we meet, we agree on the meeting point, walking involved, what to bring and any separate arrangements. If your idea includes a boat, a venue or a longer route, we clarify availability and any additional costs beforehand.

My guidance is focused on the photography experience. If you need more extensive event planning or arrangements beyond the session, we discuss those separately.

Choosing between Bled, Bohinj and Kranjska Gora

Think first about how you want the time to feel, then about the location.

  • Lake Bled: island views, lakeside walks and the possibility of a rowing boat session. Explore my Lake Bled couple photoshoot guide.
  • Lake Bohinj: a lake and mountain setting, with a plan shaped around the shoreline and your travel arrangements.
  • Kranjska Gora and Lake Jasna: alpine views with options for a session beside the water. Read the Kranjska Gora and Lake Jasna guide.

You do not need to visit every location. A single well chosen setting often gives us more time to settle in and make photographs than a busy itinerary. If you want to look beyond the lakes, we can also discuss a setting that suits your route and the experience you have in mind.

How I guide you during the photoshoot

Most people I photograph are not models. You do not need to rehearse poses or arrive knowing what to do with your hands.

I give small, clear directions: walk together, turn towards the light, come a little closer, or pause and look at each other. I can demonstrate a movement if words are not enough. Then I leave room for the small things that happen naturally between you.

Your gallery can include both the wider landscape and closer photographs of your connection. I want you to recognise yourselves in the images, not feel as if you spent your holiday playing somebody else.

A little guidance, then room for your own connection.

Experience with couples and families

Alongside couples, I photograph families too. Working with different people has taught me to pay attention to pace, comfort and what is happening in front of me rather than expect everyone to respond in the same way.

If you are travelling with children and want family photographs, tell me their ages and a little about your plans. That session needs its own approach and rhythm. We can discuss a family booking separately rather than try to fit it into a couple session without planning for it.

What to share in your first message

  • Your travel dates and where you will be staying.
  • Whether you want couple, honeymoon, engagement, proposal or family photographs.
  • The setting you imagine, or a few photographs whose mood you like.
  • Your preferred language and any access or walking needs.
  • Anything that would help you feel comfortable, including worries about being photographed.

I will respond with availability and suitable photography options. You can see the proposed plan and costs before deciding. A first enquiry does not need to be polished or detailed; a few honest sentences are enough.

Questions about booking from abroad

Can we plan everything before travelling?

We can discuss your session remotely and agree on the important details before you arrive. Weather dependent choices are reviewed closer to the date.

What if we do not know which location to choose?

That is part of what I help with. Send me your dates, accommodation area and the kind of experience you would enjoy.

Can you work with a couple who speak different languages?

Tell me which languages each of you is comfortable with. We can agree on how to communicate clearly, using the languages I speak and visual guidance where useful.

Where can we learn more about you?

You can meet me here and explore the photo stories on my website. Seeing complete stories can help you decide whether my natural, gently guided approach feels right for you.

You do not have to figure it all out before you write

Tell me when you are coming to Slovenia and what you would love to remember. I will help you turn that into a session that fits your trip and feels like you.
