Beyond Bled: Couple Photoshoot Locations & Experiences in Slovenia
Beyond the familiar postcards · Slovenia · Couple photos
The right place might be
somewhere you had not thought to look.
Lake Bled and Lake Jasna are beautiful, but they are not the only starting points for a couple photoshoot in Slovenia. If your idea of a good afternoon includes a valley, a small lake or an open view, we can look beyond the best known visitor stops.
I’m Sanja from Sanja’s Visuals, based in Radovljica. This guide introduces three places in the Gorenjska region that may be less familiar to visitors planning a first trip to Slovenia: Jezersko, Završnica and Jamnik. They are places to consider, not a promise of empty scenery or unrestricted access.
I help you weigh up the setting, light, travel and walking involved before we choose the exact location. The best plan is the one that feels right for you, not the longest list of photo stops.
Send me your travel dates and I will help you choose where to begin.
1. Jezersko: Planšarsko jezero and alpine scenery
Jezersko may appeal if you are drawn to mountain scenery and a smaller lake setting. Planšarsko jezero is a recognisable local landmark, and the surrounding area offers a different visual direction from Bled’s island views.
I would consider it for couples who want the landscape to be a strong part of their photographs and are happy to make the journey part of the day. We would decide on the specific route after discussing your dates, transport and comfort with walking.
It is not an unknown or private lake. Timing, visitor activity and the conditions still matter. If we include another setting nearby, it needs its own access check rather than assuming that a photogenic meadow is available to use.
2. Završnica: a reservoir, woodland and a valley walk
Near Žirovnica, the Završnica valley combines a reservoir with woodland and recreational paths. It is an option to discuss if you enjoy a greener setting and would prefer a walk to a busy sightseeing itinerary.
For photographs, I would look for light between the trees, suitable waterside angles and places where we can pause naturally. We do not need a famous landmark in every frame for the photographs to feel connected to your time in Slovenia.
This is a recreation area used by other people, so a quieter feel cannot be guaranteed. We choose a route that suits the day and keep shared paths open.
3. Jamnik: open views and a hilltop church
Jamnik is known for its church of Saints Primus and Felician on a hill above the village and for the surrounding views. It is already popular with photographers, so I would describe it as an alternative to the lakes rather than a secret location.
Its appeal is the sense of space. For a couple who love a wider landscape, we could discuss a session shaped around the view and the changing light.
An exposed setting can also mean wind and stronger sun. We agree on the route, suitable footwear and a plan for the conditions. The church and nearby land are places to treat respectfully; access to interiors or private areas should never be assumed.
A special experience together: aeroplane, helicopter or hot air balloon
Some memories begin with a little adventure. Lesce Airfield is very close to my base in Radovljica and to Lake Bled, making it a lovely starting point for an experience you can build into your time here together.
Local options include panoramic aeroplane flights from Lesce and scenic helicopter flights. There are also hot air balloon flights around Bled. Imagine seeing the landscape from above, then returning for photographs that bring you back to how it felt to share that moment.
If this sounds like your kind of adventure, tell me. I can help you connect with local providers and plan the photography around your chosen experience. Whether you are celebrating a honeymoon, an anniversary or simply being here together, we can create something personal and truly special.
We can plan portraits before or after the flight, and discuss photography in the air with the provider where possible. Flight availability, weather, seating and any additional costs are confirmed before booking; flights and photography are arranged separately.
How I would help you choose
- Start with the atmosphere. Do you imagine water, woodland, mountain scenery or an open view?
- Look at your actual trip. Where are you staying, will you have a car, and how much time would you like to spend travelling?
- Be honest about walking. A short stroll and a viewpoint walk are different experiences. Tell me what feels comfortable.
- Choose the light for the setting. Trees, hills and mountains can change when a location gets direct sunlight.
- Leave room to adapt. A suitable alternative is more useful than insisting on one exact spot in unsuitable conditions.
I suggest a plan around those answers. Photography guidance is included in how we prepare the session; a longer excursion or additional arrangements need to be discussed separately.
Less familiar does not automatically mean better
Sometimes the most suitable place is close to where you are already staying. Sometimes an extra journey is worth it because a particular landscape matters to you. Neither choice needs to prove how adventurous you are.
A photograph can feel personal because of how you look at each other, the light and the way you move through a place. You do not need a remote location to have that.
If your trip is already centred on the lakes, my guides to Lake Bled couple photography and Kranjska Gora and Lake Jasna can help you compare the experience.
How we make the photographs feel natural
Once we have chosen the setting, you do not have to invent the photographs. I guide your position, suggest simple movement and help you settle into the light.
We can make wider frames that show the landscape, then come closer for expressions, hands and the small details of your connection. The aim is to give you a varied story of your time together, not simply place you in front of several backgrounds.
I work with couples from around the world. We can communicate in English, German, Slovenian or Serbian/Croatian; I also understand some Spanish. Let me know your preferred language when you write. Read more about planning your Slovenia photoshoot from abroad.
Practical questions about a quieter location
Can you guarantee that we will be alone?
No. These are places other people visit too. We can choose timing and angles thoughtfully, but public locations are not private bookings.
Will you tell us the exact meeting point?
Yes. Once we agree on the session and location, we confirm the practical meeting details and walking involved.
Can we include more than one location?
We can discuss it, but I would first consider travel time and whether the extra stop adds something meaningful. A relaxed session in one area is often a better fit than a rushed route.
Can these ideas work for families?
Some settings may suit a family session, but ages, walking needs and the route change the plan. Tell me who is coming so we can discuss a family booking on its own terms.
